Well, I attended one more concert of svaramaadhuri, the orchestra being led by famous playback singer g.aanand, this time in Cincinnati on the 20th. Once again, I enjoyed the concert. As I mentioned earlier, the troup consists of singers L.R. eeSwari, rENuka, madhusoodan, sooryaprakaash and Saarada mallaadi. They are supported by ayyaparaaju on keyboards, kumar on flute and prasad on drums. One of the interesting things to me is the reportoire of this group. Many of the songs that they sung in Cincinnati were not sung in the earlier concerts and vice versa. On request from Cincinnati audience, they even sang a Kannada and a Tamil song. They take requests from the audience and try to oblige. The songs that they sang in Cincinnati include viThala, viThalaa (chakradhaari) aanand (A) paaDanaa telugu paaTa (amerikaa ammaayi) rENuka (R) neelimEghaalalO (baavaamaradaLLu) Sarada (S) Sankaraa, naadaSareerapara (SankaraabharaNam) Madhusoodan (M) bhkatigeetham (private) LR eeSwari (L) aalayana velisina aa dEvuni reeti (dEvata) SooryaPrakaash (SP) E Subhasamayam`lO (manasu maangalyam) A,S masaka masaka cheekaTilO (dEvuDu cEsina manushyulu) L divi nunci bhuviki digivacce (tEne manasulu) A,R prEmayaatrlaku (gunDamma katha) M,S ettukunTaavaa, ettamanTaavaa (kattula rattayya) L vagala raaNivi neevE (bandipOTu) SP aDagaka iccina manasE muddu (daaguDu mootalu) A,R greeku veeruDu (ninnE peLLaaDataa) S,R (encore) lElElE naa raaja (prEm`nagar) LR,A haayihaayigaa aamani paaDe (suvarNasudnari) R,SP nannu vadali neevu pOlEvulE (manaci manasulu) s,A teeskO kOkaakOlaa (?) As I said earlier, if you have a concert from this group in our area, attend it if you like Telugu film music. You will enjoy it. If a concert is not already scheduled in your area, may be you can arrange it by contacting padmaSree mutyaala, Chairperson of TANA Cultural Committee, at 281-565-0634. Hurry, as they are in US for only a limited time. This group would be performing at the 11th North American Telugu Conference on July 4, 1997. for more information about the conference, check out http://www.tana.org Regads. -- V. Chowdary Jampala
