namastE !

The poem referred to is one of my favorites, as is indeed "kanyaaSulkam"
nATakam itself. My interest in kanyaaSulkam was sparked off surprisingly
by the "TookeegA" column of eenaaDu daily. The columnist used to quote
gireeSam at every oppurtunity.

Anyway the poem (the couple of stanzas I remember) is here:

( gireeSam : deenni London Reformer lO accEyistE Tennyson gunDelu
baadukoni caccaaDu !

The Widow

She wakes up sharp at AM four
And sweeps the dust from off the floor
And heaps it all behind the door
The Widow

(I might have missed a stanza here )

Of wondrous size she makes a cake
And takes much pains to boil and bake
And eats it all without mistake
The Widow

I like the widow however she be
Married again or single free

(and a couple of other couplets )

I couldn't resist replying to this post even though I did
not remember the whole poem. I too would like to see the
poem again in its entirety.

Here are a couple of other interesting poems from Kanyasulkam.
